Richmond, B.C. Drive- July 13 2008

I thought that the drive went quite well, getting 262 people tested through the Gift of Life kits, and another 250 people registered through onematch.ca!! Another 500+ possible people who could save Carolyn’s life, or somebody else’s loved one!

Canada Drives – June 14/15

Stem Cell Donor Drive was a SUCCESS!

 

We just want to say that we have been amazed at the turnout that we had at over the weekend at the various locations of the Stem Cell Donor Drive!!!

For the volunteers:

We want to make sure that all of you know how much your efforts were appreciated on our drive over the weekend. We couldn’t have done it without all of your help, and we have been truly moved but how quickly we were able to mobilize and receive your commitment to help on such short notice. It was a long and exhausting day, but at the end of it, we were energized and inspired by your willingness and enthusiasm to help, in terms ensuring the donor drive was a success, and also in selflessly giving donations to help the cause. Thank you so much your dedication in helping everything run smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you!

For the donors:

It was truly humbling to see all of the people who came to our event, to give up some of their busy day to help our cause. There were reports of people waiting almost 45 minutes just to do the swab test!

Final results

In Vancouver: 
Burnaby: 323 tested, $360 collected, Chinatown: 140 tested, $1400 collected, and in Richmond: 341 tested, $650 collected, various donations: $10340 
801 total tested, $12750 in donations collected. 

In Toronto: 
Scarborough Yee Hong: 520 tested, $26,500 collected (with one $5000 and one $3,000 donations), RHCCC: 511 tested, $$13,800 collected, Downtown USH: 160 tested, $1,600 collected, about $10 per test done; Mississauga Yee Hong: 200 tests, ~$3,500 collected 1391 total, $45,000 in donations collected

In total, the weekend drive will add 2192 people to the stem cell registry, which will be then available to other people in need. That is a phenomenal achievement, given the time that we had in getting the event together. 

But even with this success, we have a long way to go. We must continue the search for a donor match for Carolyn, and continue to encourage people to become donors. No match has been found for Carolyn yet. So please help!
